Relationships — Chapter I

Relationships

What is one of the most difficult things we have to do in life? Maintain relationships. Relationships are beyond worth it, but man…the adversity that comes with it makes you want to just give up sometimes. There are many types of relationships: Your relationship with God, your parents, siblings, spouse, etc. and they’re all work in progresses. We are all flawed and that goes for our relationships as well, but there are positive and negative relationships. A positive relationship is a God centered and can be measured by seeing how easily you can say, “Despite ___, I still love you”. Despite the way you hurt my feelings in that moment, I still love you. I’ve realized that one of the most difficult tasks we have as humans is forgiveness. It’s difficult to forgive people because we are prideful and irrational people. I remember when I was an impatient, irrational, and emotional decision maker and that was the WORSSST. I made decisions based on how I felt in that moment as opposed to praying and taking time to find clarity in every situation I faced and that always put me in the Valley of Death. I was never in beneficial relationships, but rather one-sided relationships that diminished my self-esteem, self-confidence, and overall self. As a daughter of God, I remember questioning if He still cared and loved me because it seemed as if I was alone walking through this Valley of Death.

Weekly Verse: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”—Isaiah 30:21

Weekly Challenge: Think about all the relationships in your life. Are they beneficial? Do you feel alone? Are you growing because of the other person? Do they challenge you? Reflect on this and cut the toxicity from your life.
