I’m not going to lie to y’all, but I’ve passed by Taste of Texas so many times in my life and I just thought I was “too boujee” for this restaurant. I never even considered Taste of Texas because it didn’t seem like my type of restaurant from the exterior to the name. I love Texas, but c’mon? It seemed like this was a “wannabe” restaurant with a “wannabe” name. I mean seriously, how could you live up to the name Texas? Texas is the largest state (I think lol) and we’re in the south, there is this thing called “southern hospitality”, and that restaurant didn't seem like one to have the southern hospitality I was looking for…so I continuously judged a book by its cover, I didn’t even think about googling pictures, the menu, reading reviews, etc. I just '“knew” it wasn’t for me..but I was WRONG! This restaurant was everything and more. It’s funny how God works because my mom has been wanting to go to Taste of Texas for the LONGEST, but I would make up excuses like “I don’t like steak”, “It’s too far”, “I’m full”, etc. then she put her foot down and said “We are going because it’s my birthday and that’s final.” As soon as I walked in, I was in awe…The decor was mesmerizing. Seriously…these pictures do no justice because I could feel the joy of Christmas in the atmosphere as soon as I walked in…It was INCREDIBLE!
Wait! Before you think the decor was enough for me, they won me over with the complimentary snacks (freshly popped popcorn, chips and salsa, and beverages) while we waited for our table…Okay, I wish I had pictures to prove it, but I got LOST in it all. I’ve been to some pretty awesome restaurants, but this truly topped them all. Complimentary snacks and beverages while you wait for your table?!?! I mean, C’mon! It does not get any better than that. I lied, it just got better as the night went on…My mom ordered the popular Tomahawk steak and I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich (I don’t eat red meat like that), but guess what?! Our waiter invited us to the kitchen to pick out the exact piece we of meat we wanted…That was an adventure all in itself. The excitement that filled my veins was something else, I was just so excited, I felt important, and this felt like an extremely exclusive task…
As you can tell, I have a lot to say about the atmosphere and hospitality of a restaurant I once doubted…but now let’s get to the good stuff, let’s talk about the food! We ordered the crab cake as an appetizer, I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Steak Fries and Megan’s Macaroni and Cheese and my mom ordered the Tomahawk Ribeye with a side of Baked Sweet Potato topped with pecans. Everything came out absolutely delicious and my sweet tea came with a nice hammered spoon (All of their utensils had that hammered metal look: MY ABSOLUTE FAVEEEEE) and A PAPER STRAW! I might not be the Queen of living an eco-friendly lifestyle, but I appreciate the transition that this restaurant took with paper straws to save the environment. Anyways, my sandwich came with honey mustard and raw onions (I prefer my onions grilled), so I requested some grilled onions and they brought that out immediately and let’s just say…I was extremely satisfied with my dish; the chicken was beyond juicy and flavorful, I can’t even find the words to describe it. Oh, and as you can tell from the pictures below, I dug into the Mac and Cheese before I could take any pictures, so…YEP! And as I’ve said previously, I’m not a steak eater, but my mom let me try a piece and IT WAS SOOOOO DELICIOUS! I was in love with the flavor FILLED entrees…and now to my FAVORITE TIME of the night…Dessert! The waiter came out with a plate filled with different dessert options and if anyone knows me, I LOVEEEEE Creme Brûlée, so I honestly don’t even remember what he said about anything else…I was lost at Creme Brûlée haha!
I was pleasantly surprised with Taste of Texas, this is a restaurant I definitely recommend to all. From the true southern hospitality to the delicious food, this restaurant is one that made an impression. Let me know if you’ve ever been here and what you think about Taste of Texas!
